One of them pointed at a passing rollerblader and said: “Why don’t you photograph him instead?” Another one answered for me:“Because he’s not a Hasid with a chihuahua.”

So here’s a story that will make you lose all hope for humanity, if you haven’t lost it yet. This man is Jalal. He’s Palestinian. His car was torched by Jewish settlers. You see that piece of paper he’s holding? That’s a 1,500 shekel bill ($420) from the Israel Fire and Rescue Services that he’s required to pay. Not only does the State of Israel stand by as these attacks occur on Palestinians every day, but they force the victim to pay for their victimization.

Unreal.

A Greek, right, and an immigrant worker march hand in hand in front of the Greek parliament in Athens on May 1, 2013. About 8,000 people took part in the subdued demonstrations as austerity-weary unions held a strike for May Day. The country’s main labor unions are protesting soaring unemployment, which is the highest in the 27-country European Union, and the austerity measures the conservative-led government is enacting in return for crucial bailout loans. Blue River + Grandpa’s House
